Can I paint on Silicone series?
No. Usual silicone, like our product SHARPIE SILICONE S cannot be painted on The modified silicone (SHARPIE HENSEI M) can be painted on. But some paints are not suitable either, so test prior to paint is recommended.
If you already used Silicone, applying primer maybe can help painting.
Normal Silicone series can resist about 150°C as instant heat. But the safe temperature is 120℃.
We also provide special silicone with high-temperature resistance (can arrive 28O°C). SHARPIE HENSEI series have not so high-temperature resistance. The safe temperature is about 80℃, 120~130℃ for a short time.
The heat-resistance will decrease with the long lasting heat.
What are the differences between HENSEI (modified silicone) and Silicone?
In comparison with Silicone, the heat-resistance and water-resistance of HENSEI are not so good. However its advantages are paintable, less pollution, rust proof. It is all-featured sealant.
With the amendment of the building law, now there is a strict limitation of using formalin.
Our company has been endeavoring develop a new measurement which can live up to the new law and do our best to decrease the indoor pollution.
The latest measurement can detect formalin more easily. It is generally acknowledged that SILICONE, MODIFIED SILICONE, URETHANE not produce formalin.
Our sealant has 330 ml quantity in 320 ml container. For further information, please contact us.
Formula: (work area in meters)=(package capacity/ml)*(work width/mm)*(work depth/mm)
I applied HENSEI a few months ago, now I found the borders of the joints become white. That's why?
Not just the problem of HENSEI series. Please make sure the thickness of the sealant. Taking better advantage of masking tape can avoid the condition of thin silicone. The part not thick enough will result in degradation.
After using oil based caulk, why is the inner part of the caulk still soft.
For oil based caulk, the part cannot cure without exposure to air.
So the oil based caulk can be used for repairing the cracks on reinforced concrete, but it cannot be used on the moving joints.
Please introduce JIS (Japan Industry Standard) how to divide the durability of Silicone?
JIS divide durability according to JIS A5758-2004
For example, the meaning of "7020" is temperature at 70℃, joints suffer 20% compression ,while temperature at -10℃, joints suffer 20% expansion. Even under this condition, the sealant still can work, which is confirmed as "7020". Likely, “8020”at 80℃,20% compression, at -10℃ 20% expansion, sealant still work.
At present, sealant for general construction meet "7020" standard, all others meet "8020" standard. The sealant used for glass has a different standard to divide.
The paints applied on sealant don't dry, how to deal with?
The oil based paint cannot get dry if applied on modified silicone and urethane sealant. Other paints also have chances of not become dry. So tests prior to paint are recommended.
Which sealant is suitable for using on plastics, like the polycarbonate, propylene and ABS.
Because plastic has high vibrate resistance and easy process ability, now it is often used in car port. Using oxime-cure type silicone based sealant will cause cracks on the surface the emitted gas cause cracking. So we recommend dealcohol type silicone base sealant.
After painting the exterior walls, the cracks only occurred on the joint sealant. Why?
Sealant was made to deal with the joint deformation caused by earthquake, temperature changes, etc.
But paint cannot deal with these problems, so the cracks occur on it.
For the protection board with elasticity, you should decide sealant first or paint first.
Silicone is very difficult to peel off after cure. If it was used in unnecessary part, you must clean it before cure.
If it cured, you can peel it off by scriber and scrub. Or you can use toluene first than clean it.
The hardness vary according to sealant. Basically, the hardness is similar to rubber. You can strengthen the hardness by using epoxy and urethane substances which have higher hardness.
The durable years depend on many different factors.
"Technique of improving durability of constructional waterproofing" by supervisor of technical surveys of ministry of construction, the endurance design of sealing material and the explanation, the coefficient of durability is; (1) coefficient of combination of material and body wear, (2) color of the body wear, direction coefficient, (3) Adhesion hardness coefficient depending on surface condition, 4) the coefficient of the degree of difficulties of the work, (5) skill coefficient of the person doing the work, (6)the ultraviolet rays deterioration external force coefficient due to regional difference, (7) the coefficient of preserving the maintenance are described. Because various conditions are complicatedly involved like this, it is difficult to tell the exact durable year.
I used Silicone and Urethane series at the same time, but why do the Urethane sealant not cured?
Silicone will produce gas called subgenerated thing (Keioxym). This gas reacts with urethane based sealant which cause difficult to set up. In principle, they can not be operated at the same time. If the condition is unavoidable, then please replace silicone with modified silicone (HENSEI).
The "Oxime-cure type" and "Oxime type", which printed on the container of Silicone series, what are the difference between them?。
Oxime-cure and oxime type have the same meaning. In general the silicone based sealant produces sub generated thing (keioxime) gas. This gas gets hardened while being emitted, therefore is called oxime-cure and oxime. Other than that silicone based has alcohol type and acetic acid type, they are not so much used domestically. But the alcohol type does not make cracks in plastic and makes hard for copper wire to rust; therefore its demand is increasing recently.
We sell the Oxime type under the name of Polycaseal.
I cannot find the manufacturing date in the container.
We are very sorry for not unifying the manufacturing date.
There are 6 letter and numbers on the undated products. The first digits is the 2nd number of Japanese year, next 4 digits are month and day. The last digit is our control number. Therefore, a product made in H15/2/28 is shown as 50228A.
If it is marked as 03.07.01A, which means it produced in 1st July 2003.
After I used Silicone sealant on the bathroom tiles, the tiles tend to get a bit slippery. Why?
Silicone series consists in silicon oil. It will outflow when run up against water flow and get slippery.
It cannot be used in the bathroom floor in quaintity. If only for repair, it is usually not a problem.
Using thinner can solve the problem just for a short time.
Silicone is very difficult to wipe off. The usual cleaner have no effective. Alcohol and thinner are not recommended too. The only way is wipe it patiently.
Do you have the sealant marked the label of F★★★★?
F★★★★ is the mark of lowest exudation of formaldehyde. It is not the detected object in building law. So the products needn't to use this symbol.
And there are more substances that can cause disease. By F★★★★, we also cannot solve the problem. For further information, please click here.
Polycarbonate cannot use after a long time. It become very difficult to cure after a period time. You must notice the manufacturing date. This product' durable time is 1 year in our company.
The SHARPIE BATHSEAL has not lid. What measures can I take to store it?
Because the product amount depends on the quantity demand of bathtub. If just for repair cracks, please refer to HERE. To reduce wastage, our company chooses to not use the lid. Sorry for the inconvenience..
